Using Online Ads to Increase Ticket Sales | Canada Basketball Case Study

THE CLIENT

Canada Basketball is the National Sporting Organization for the sport of Basketball in Canada and is recognized as the sole governing body of the sport of amateur basketball in Canada.

THE OBJECTIVE

With Canada’s basketball talent the best it has ever been, Canada Basketball wanted to generate maximum awareness and ticket sales to support the teams in the following events:

  • The FIBA U18 Americas Championship (June 10-16, 2018)
  • The Men’s National Team FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifier vs. the Dominican Republic (June 29, 2018)
  • The Senior Women’s National Team At The Edmonton Grads International Classics (July 4-7, 2018)

THE STRATEGY

Rocket Digital created and set-up online ads targeted to basketball fans, and Canadian sports fans in general, using Google Display, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The ads were triggered by user behaviour (e.g. visiting sports news websites, etc.) in the host city for each game and linked directly to drive ticket sales.

THE RESULTS

From the beginning of May to the beginning of July, Rocket Digital was able to deliver over 6,000,000 impressions, over 128,000 video views, and almost 40,000 clicks through from the various digital platforms. The resulting strong ticket sales meant that many fans were able to enjoy some great basketball, and Canada Basketball was enabled to continue to grow the game in Canada.
